Happy New Year!
It is 2008 here in Alaska now. Happy New Year to everyone! I think I am the last person among my circle of friends to enter the new year, which sort of seems fitting since I really hate change. lol
So, this means that it is time for resolutions, huh? I am as much of a sap for getting a new start as anyone, so I am going to be making resolutions as well. My resolutions? Well, there are a few of them.
1. I resolve to lose weight.
I resolve to do better on my diet this year than I did last year. I resolve to be more conscious of what I am eating and to set goals for myself for how much weight I will be losing each month and to try my best to reach those goals while keeping to a healthy lifestyle. As part of this I will exercise for one hour at least three times a week, more times a week if I can fit it into the schedule.
2. I resolve to write one chapter of a novel.
Yes, one. That is all I plan to worry about. I know, most people would make a resolution to write a novel, but I am not going to do that, I am going to write a single chapter of a novel. If I manage to meet that resolution then I will renew the resolution and
write another chapter in that novel.
3. I resolve to write the rest of Heir to Magic.
Heir to Magic (www.heirtomagic.com) is my novel in progress. It has been a novel I have worked on off and on for some time now and I always let other things get in the way of that work. I want to resolve to finish the rough draft of that novel this year. This resolution is not to be confused with writing a novel chapter, that resolution is for a completely different novel.
4. I resolve to update all of my websites and blogs at least once a week.
I maintain multiple websites and blogs, and there are times when I have been highly guilty of not keeping them all up to date and maintaine. Sometimes for months on end. This year I resolve that I will be sure to pay attention to each of those websites and blogs at least once a week.
5. I resolve to post once every day throughout the year to The Daily Writing Prompt
The Daily Writing Prompt is a section of The Writing Office that I use for prompting writers to find something to add into their novels. I have been trying to be good about posting to it daily, but… you can guess how well that has worked out. So, I am going to be taking on the challenge to write a post every day for that blog. We will see if that helps me to do better on writing for that blog.
6. I resolve to sleep more.
I am very bad about not getting enough sleep, so this year I want to make a resolution to get more sleep than I have been getting. That will help with several of my other resolutions as well, since I can lose weight more easily when I am rested and I can also focus better.
7. I resolve to clean house every day – including my office.
Somehow the housework gets away from me, so rather than find myself once a week wondering what happened, I resolve to spend fifteen to thirty minutes every day tidying up and putting writing books back on their shelves and making sure I have got the house in general straightened up on a general level that goes above sweeping floors and wiping down counters.
So, there you have it, my new years’ resolutions. I suspect I will create a couple of more, but I probably won’t bother posting those anywhere other than in my notebook. I’ll try to remember to check back in every once in a while with an update on how I am going with these resolutions, or if you want to keep tabs on any single one in particular some of them are linked to sites that are actually focused on the resolution. Feel free to kick me once in a while and keep me motivated.
What are your new year’s resolutions?
